What to do if you "stay" in the elevator

There is a sense in the world that the main cause of entrapment in an elevator is a power outage.

But what are the chances of poor elevator maintenance being the cause behind a downtime? An unmaintained elevator can not only stop working like any machine, but can even injure a passenger. It is important to know that the maintenance of an elevator is required by law, based on our safe movement. With maintenance, we significantly reduce the possibility of damage but without zeroing the possibility of entrapment.

In case we are trapped:

1. The first and most important thing to do is to keep our cool. If we are trapped with other people the first thing we should do is try to calm our fellow passengers.

2. Then try to press the buttons on the other floors. In case the elevator does not work, press the emergency button on the elevator.

3. If no one hears us, we try to use the elevator phone, our mobile phone, or even make a noise by shouting.

4. In any case, we must keep in mind that we can stay in the elevator for a long time. The best thing to do is to arm yourself with patience, relax and wait for help.

5. We never try to free ourselves. Most accidents happen when the trapped person breaks the door or even worse when he tries to get out of the elevator roof.

It is important to know that there is no reason to worry if the air runs out and we suffocate or if "the ropes break and we fall". The chamber a) is adequately ventilated, and b) has systems that prevent it from falling, even in the extreme case that all the ropes holding it at the same time break.
